Abu Bakar bin Abdul Jamal was the tenth Chief and the first four-star Admiral of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). He served nearly 40 years in various roles, including commanding officer of patrol ships, destroyers, and corvettes. Notably, he was Senior Officer for the Corvette Project Team in Germany from 1981 to 1984. He became Chief of Navy on 15 October 1998 and was promoted to admiral on 1 June 2000, retiring in 2002. He received several awards, including the Bintang Jalasena Utama and the Legion of Merit from the USA.
