Abu Baker Asvat was a South African medical doctor who practiced in Soweto during the 1970s and 1980s. He was a founding member of Azapo and led initiatives aimed at improving health for rural black South Africans under Apartheid. Tragically, he was shot dead in his clinic in 1989, dying in the arms of his nurse. His death was linked to political strife and allegations surrounding the murder of Stompie Seipei, being presented to South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
