He served as the president of the Martijn association from 2006 to 2011 and was a co-founder of the Party for Compassion, Freedom, and Diversity (PNVD) in 2006. Van den Berg has openly expressed pro-pedophilia views, advocating for the decriminalization of sexual relations between adults and children. He was arrested in 2011 for possession of child pornography and sentenced to four years in prison, including a period of probation.
