Adelir Antônio de Carli (1966–2008) was a Brazilian Catholic priest notable for his attempt to set a world record by flying in a chair lifted by helium balloons. After extensive preparation, he launched on April 20, 2008, with 600 balloons, reaching an altitude of 6000 meters. Communication was lost during the flight, which occurred over the ocean. Despite a search operation initiated by the Brazilian Navy the following day, he was not found until July 2, 2008, when his body was discovered approximately 100 km off the Brazilian coast.
