He transitioned power to civilian Governor Jolly Nyame in January 1992. Afolahan's military career included roles such as Chief of Naval Operations and Deputy Commandant at the National War College, Abuja. He advocated for youth awareness on AIDS in a seminar in Lagos in 2000 and served as Chairman of the Ila Orangun Unity Movement.
