He worked as a lecturer at Salahaddin University, and later moved to the Netherlands, obtaining a PhD in social sciences. Koucher has been involved in various development projects in Asia and Africa, focusing on globalization and the role of NGOs, and he authored a book on agricultural change in Iraq.
