Afolabi Olabimtan was a prominent Nigerian politician, writer, and academic born on June 11, 1932, in Ogun State. He achieved a PhD in African Languages from the University of Lagos and became an expert in the Yoruba language, authoring novels such as 'Kekere Ekun' (1967) and 'Ayanmo' (1973). Olabimtan served as a senator for Ogun West from 1999 until 2003, representing the Alliance for Democracy party. He chose not to seek re-election to make way for a younger successor and tragically died in a motor accident on August 27, 2003.
