Agajan Babaýew is a notable Turkmen scientist specializing in the study and development of deserts. He was born on May 10, 1929, in Merv. Babaýew held the title of Doctor of Geographical Sciences and was a professor as well as an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Turkmen SSR, in addition to being a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He was recognized as a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR for his contributions to the field.
