Aghvan Chatinyan is an Armenian mountaineer born on November 20, 1927, in Vardablur, Armenia. He is a several-time champion of Caucasus rock climbing and notably won the 1952 Caucasus Championship by defeating famous climber Mikhael Khergiani. He graduated from Kirovakan Agricultural College in 1945 and the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture in 1952, where he has served as a professor since 1999. Chatinyan is also an honorable member of the Armenian Olympic Committee.
