She previously held the position of Minister of State for Tourism from May 27, 2011, until June 6, 2016, after replacing Serapio Rukundo. Akiror retained her ministerial role through a cabinet reshuffle on March 1, 2015. In her capacity as a cabinet minister, she is an ex-officio Member of Parliament, contributing to legislative discussions and national policies.
