Agnes Torres, born on March 23, 1983, in Tehuacán, was a Mexican psychologist, researcher, speaker, and transgender activist. She was a strong advocate for the legal recognition of gender identity for transgender individuals in Mexico. Tragically, she was murdered on March 9, 2012, in Atlixco, Puebla. Her death led the local Congress to include the term 'hate crime' in Puebla's Social Defense Code as an aggravating factor for murders based on gender or sexual orientation.
