He graduated from Lycée Liberté in 1996 and trained in cinematography at the Higher Institute of Cinema, finishing first in his class in 2001. His short films received awards in festivals in England, France, and Ukraine. He authored several novels including Vertigo, Diamond Dust, and The Blue Elephant, the latter shortlisted for the Arabic Booker Prize in 2014, and has co-written film adaptations based on his works.
