Ahmed Refai Taha, also known as Abu Yasser al-Masri, was an Egyptian Islamist and convicted terrorist. He was the leader of the Islamic Group in Egypt and chaired its Shura Council abroad, overseeing its military wing. He claimed responsibility for the 1997 Luxor massacre, which killed 62 people, and was involved in founding al-Qaeda. He also issued a statement regarding the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole. Taha was sentenced to five years in prison for the assassination of Anwar Sadat and was sentenced to death in absentia. He died in a U.S. airstrike in Idlib, Syria in 2016.
