Aivar Põldvee, born on February 5, 1962, in Paldiski, is an Estonian historian and since 2010, a Doctor of History and researcher at Tallinn University. He graduated in history from Tartu State University in 1985 and has held various teaching and research positions, including senior researcher at Harjumaa Museum and director of the Estonian National Museum. Põldvee completed his doctoral thesis on 'Bengt Gottfried Forselius and the Origins of Folk Education in Estonia and Livonia' in 2010. His daughter is the singer Anna Pärnoja.
