An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he was initially a lawyer and community leader before entering the political arena. As Minister of Defence, he focused on improving Nigeria's relations with neighboring countries facing issues such as border disputes and international mergers. His diplomatic efforts included addressing the tensions involving Chad and Cameroon.
