He graduated from the 43rd class of the Japan Keirin School and was affiliated with the Saga branch of the Japanese Keirin Association during his active career. His first race was at the Hofu velodrome, where he achieved his first victory on April 13, 1979. His mentor was Yasuhiro Nishimura.
