Akira Aono (February 21, 1931 - July 2, 2020) was a Japanese film director, producer, and screenwriter from Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture. He graduated from Waseda University with a degree in French literature. Aono began his career at Shin-Toho and later moved to International Broadcasting. He made his television directorial debut in 1964 and worked on several popular series, including 'The Mean Old Woman' and 'Jungle Fever.' After retiring in the 1990s, he lived a reclusive life in his hometown and passed away from gallbladder cancer at the age of 89.
