He has served as a professor at the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Economics and at Tokyo Metropolitan University, where he became an emeritus professor in April 2013. His areas of expertise include theoretical economics and Marxian economics. He has been involved in the editing of the New MEGA, a scholarly work related to Marx and Engels, and is a member of several academic societies related to economic theory and history.
