Akira Sasō is a Japanese manga artist born on February 9, 1961, in Hyōgo Prefecture. He grew up in Bombay and studied literature at Waseda University. His debut work, Shiroi Shiroi Natsuyanen, earned him the Great Chiba-Tetsuya Prize in 1984. He received the Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival for Shindō in 1998, followed by the Excellence Award of the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize in 1999. Since 2006, he has been teaching manga art at Seika University in Kyoto.
