Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa (April 24, 1936 - June 26, 1979) was a Ghanaian soldier and politician. He was a member of the National Liberation Council following the February 1966 coup that ousted Kwame Nkrumah. Afrifa was appointed head of state after Joseph Arthur Ankrah was forced to resign in April 1969, a position he held until August 1970. In 1979, he was arrested, tried, and executed alongside other officers, including Ignatius Kutu Acheampong and Fred Akuffo, who were also heads of state.
