Alain Chenciner (born October 23, 1943) is a French mathematician known for his work in dynamical systems with applications in celestial mechanics. He studied at the École polytechnique and obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Paris-Sud. Chenciner's early research focused on differential topology and singularity theory, later shifting to celestial mechanics, specifically the restricted three-body problem and N-body problem. He co-founded the Astronomy and Dynamical Systems research group at the Paris Observatory and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
