Alan Raymond Jinkinson was a British trade union leader, born on 27 February 1935 in Sheffield, Yorkshire. After his education at King Edward VII School and Keble College, Oxford, he worked as an accountant and teacher before joining NALGO in 1960. Jinkinson was involved in politics, standing for the Labour Party in by-elections. He became deputy general secretary of NALGO in 1981 and later the general secretary in 1990, overseeing its merger to form Unison. He retired in 1996 and passed away on 6 November 2022.
