Alan R. Bishop is a prominent British/American physicist and academic known for his work in condensed matter theory, statistical physics, and nonlinear physics. He retired as Principal Associate Director at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2018. His notable contributions include the Peyrard-Bishop model of DNA denaturation and research on solitons and complex electronic materials. Bishop has published over 750 papers, has numerous fellowships including the American Physical Society and has received the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award in 1993.
