Alan R. H. Baker is a distinguished British geographer, born in 1938. Since 1970, he has been a life fellow at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He completed his BA in 1966 and PhD in 1963 from the University of London. Baker has lectured at the University of London and the University of Cambridge, serving as head of the Geography Department at Cambridge from 1989 to 1994. His accolades include being made a chevalier of the Order of Academic Palms, receiving the Royal Geographical Society's Gill Memorial Award, and a fellow of the British Academy.
