He graduated from Tallinn's 12th Vocational Secondary School in 1977 and studied at Georg Otsa Tallinn Music School and the Tallinn State Conservatory Preparation Department. He worked at the Estonian Art Museum and ETV and sang in the Estonia choir from 1980 to 1999, and in the Vanemuine choir from 1999 to 2007.
