Albert Jamil Butros was a Jordanian-Palestinian academic and retired diplomat. Born on March 25, 1934, he was a professor of English literature at Jordan University and founded its English Department in 1963. He served as the president of the Royal Scientific Society from 1976 to 1984 and was Jordan's ambassador to the UK from 1987 to 1991. Known for his contributions to literature and translation, he translated significant Middle English writings, particularly works by Geoffrey Chaucer. He received an honorary professor title from his department in 2004.
