He achieved notable success in 2005, winning stages in the Giro di Toscana and Giro di Basilicata in the junior category. In 2008, he became the Italian U23 road race runner-up. Later, he joined the Russian professional team Tinkoff Credit Systems as a stagiaire. In 2009, he secured the overall victory at Giro delle Valli Cuneesi nelle Alpi del Mare and also claimed the team time trial at the Giro della Valle d’Aosta with Bottoli Nordelettrica Ramonda.
