Alberto Pimenta, born on December 26, 1937, in Porto, Portugal, is a prominent Portuguese poet, essayist, performer, educator, philologist, translator, and Germanist. Known for his unconventional poetry, he is considered one of the leading contemporary poets in Portugal. Pimenta was one of the first in Portugal to conduct happenings and taught Portuguese language at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He is recognized as a significant figure in Concrete Poetry, Visual Poetry, and Experimental Literature, and as an intellectual, he is one of Portugal’s major social critics.
