Chester Alden Mead, known as Alden Mead, is an American physical chemist born on December 9, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Carleton College in 1954 and completed his PhD at Washington University in 1957. Mead served as an Assistant Professor and later a Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Minnesota until his retirement in 1993. He has been recognized for his contributions to quantum mechanics and molecular theories, receiving the Wigner Medal in 2012. He proposed the Planck length and time as fundamental units in 1959.
