Alec Harley Reeves was a British engineer born on March 10, 1902, in Redhill, England. He is best known for inventing the principles of Pulse-Code Modulation (PCM) in 1937 and filed over 80 patents throughout his career. After studying engineering at Imperial College London, he worked at Western Electric and later in Paris. During WWII, he contributed to radar development and the Oboe navigation system for British bombers. Reeves also made advancements in communication systems and had interests in psychokinesis and telepathy.
