Alejandro Casona, born Alejandro Rodríguez Álvarez (March 3, 1903 – September 17, 1965), was a Spanish poet and playwright associated with the Generation of '27. He was born in Besullo and earned his degree from the University of Gijón, later attending the University of Murcia. Following the rise of Franco, Casona, like many intellectuals, left Spain and settled in Argentina, living in Buenos Aires until April 1962. He returned to Spain permanently where he lived until his death in 1965.
