He was arrested on September 18, 2019, on espionage charges, sparking widespread protests across Serbia. Released from prison to house arrest on October 14, 2019, he was later freed from house arrest on December 18, 2019. Despite ongoing investigations against him, no indictment has been filed. Obradović has been referred to as the 'Serbian Snowden' by Amnesty International.
