Aleksander Khomchenko was a Ukrainian evangelical pastor and former pastor of the Word of Life congregation in Donetsk. He was born on May 28, 1958, and died on February 14, 2018. Khomchenko was arrested on August 4, 2014, during the conflict in Eastern Ukraine by the Russian Orthodox army while organizing a prayer marathon that began in Donetsk in February 2014 and lasted 158 days. In the summer of 2016, he was named a People's Hero of Ukraine.
