Aleksandr Grigorevich Sharov (1922–1973) was a renowned Soviet palaeoentomologist and paleontologist specializing in Pterosauria. Graduating from Moscow State University, he defended his Candidate of Science dissertation in 1951 and later his Doctor of Science dissertation in 1966 at the Paleontological Institute in Moscow. Notable for his research on the phylogeny of Arthropods, Sharov conducted significant fieldwork in the Karatau region during the 1960s and 1970s, leading to the discovery of various fossils, some named in his honor, such as Karatausuchus sharovi and Sharovipteryx.
