Aleksandr Peyve was a prominent Soviet geologist born on January 27, 1909, in the Toropets District. He became a Hero of Socialist Labor in 1979 and received multiple state awards. A member of the USSR Academy of Sciences since 1964, he dedicated much of his career to geological research, particularly in geosynclines and tectonic movements. Peyve was the founding head of a theory linking deep fractures with metallogeny. He co-founded the journal 'Geotectonica' and served as president of the International Subcommission on the Geological Map of the World from 1972.
