He played as a defender and midfielder, starting his career with second league teams Lori and Shirak. From 1975 to 1983, he played in the top league for Ararat, scoring 11 goals in 197 matches. He also played for Shirak and Spartak and participated in one match for the USSR Olympic team against Bulgaria in 1983.
