Aleksandr Sergeievich Danilevsky was a Soviet entomologist born on February 19, 1911, in Olefirivka, Poltava Governorate. He is recognized as one of the founders of the theory of photoperiodism in insects and authored the classical monograph 'Photoperiodism and Seasonal Development of Insects' in 1961. His heritage includes being a great-great-grandson of Alexander Pushkin and a grand-nephew of Nikolai Gogol. Danilevsky passed away on June 27, 1969, in Leningrad.
