She graduated in biology from the Biotechnical Faculty of Ljubljana in 1972, obtained her master's degree in 1977, and completed her doctorate in 1984 at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Zagreb. Her expertise lies in marine biology, focusing on the ecology and biology of gelatinous marine plankton. During her career, she was the head of the Marine Biological Station and the director of the Operational Centre Slovenia at the International Oceanographic Institute. She has published over 80 scientific works and received several awards for her contributions to research.
