Sir Alexander Anthony Jarratt was a British businessman and senior civil servant, notable as the fifth Chancellor of Birmingham University. A Royal Navy veteran of WWII, he graduated with first class honours from the University of Birmingham. Jarratt had a distinguished career in the Civil Service before transitioning to senior roles in various companies, including Reed International. He chaired the influential Jarratt Committee on higher education policy. Knighted in 1979 and a Companion of the Order of the Bath, he served as chancellor of the University of Birmingham from 1983 to 2002 before passing away in 2019.
