Previously, he served as a personal secretary to Volodymyr Sabodan, wielding considerable influence over the UOC during Sabodan's final years. Drabynko was born in Korets, Rivne Oblast, and educated at the Moscow Theological Seminary and Kyiv Theological Academy, where he earned a candidate of theology degree. He was also a coauthor and anchor for a television program focused on Orthodoxy.
