Alexander John Haddow was a prominent Scottish entomologist known for his significant contributions to the study of viruses, particularly the discovery of the Zika virus and research into insect vectors of yellow fever. He conducted much of his work in Uganda, where he developed innovative methods to study biting insects. Haddow served as the Director of the Uganda Virus Research Institute from 1953 to 1965 before returning to the University of Glasgow, focusing on administrative roles for the remainder of his career.
