Alexander van Oudenaarden is a Dutch systems biologist and biophysicist known for his research on actin dynamics and gene expression. He studied material science and physics at TU Delft and earned his PhD in experimental solid-state physics in 1998. After his postdoctoral work at Stanford University, he became an Assistant Professor at MIT and later a Professor at Utrecht University. He directs the Hubrecht Institute and employs interdisciplinary approaches to study cellular decision-making under stochastic fluctuations. He has received multiple prestigious awards including the Spinoza Prize and several grants.
