Alexander William Sheppard was an Australian soldier, bookseller, publisher, and writer. He achieved the rank of Colonel during World War II and received the Military Cross for his efforts in the Allied evacuation from Greece in 1941. After the war, he served as a rehabilitation officer in Greece, where he criticized British policies and the government's actions during the Greek Civil War. In the 1960s, he was notable for opposing book censorship in Australia.
