Alf Delany was an accomplished Irish sailor born on May 16, 1911, in Longford. He spent summers in Tarmonbarry, County Roscommon, living on a houseboat. Trained by his father and a family employee, he honed his sailing skills on the Delany family's Lough Erne. Delany represented Ireland in the 1948 Summer Olympics in the Swallow class and competed again in the 1952 Summer Olympics in the Finn class. He remained active in the sailing community until his passing on December 13, 2006.
