Alfred Neumeyer was a German-American art historian and writer born on January 7, 1901, in Munich. After studying philosophy and art history in Munich and Berlin, he earned his doctorate in 1925. Neumeyer worked as an assistant at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence and led the press office of the State Museums in Berlin until his dismissal in 1933 due to his Jewish heritage. He emigrated to the US in 1935, becoming a professor at Mills College. His literary contributions include poetry, short stories, and essays, with a focus on art interpretation.
