Alfred Walter "Fuzz" Crompton, born on February 21, 1927, in Durban, South Africa, is a paleontologist and zoologist. He obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in zoology from Stellenbosch University in 1947 and 1949, respectively, and completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 1953. Crompton organized the National Museum of Palaeontology in Bloemfontein (1954-1956), then worked at the South African Museum in Cape Town until 1964. He also held positions at Yale and Harvard University and has received numerous prestigious fellowships and honors throughout his career.
