Ali Abdullah Ayyoub is a Syrian military and political figure, born on April 28, 1952, in Latakia. He has served as the Deputy Prime Minister since August 30, 2020, and as the Minister of Defense since January 1, 2018. Ayyoub was previously the Chief of Staff of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces from July 18, 2012, until his appointment as Minister of Defense. He is the third person to hold the defense position during the Syrian civil war, succeeding Fahd Jassem al-Freij after the death of Daoud Rajha in July 2012.
