He has served as a presidential advisor for press affairs and has been the Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) since November 1, 2010. Javanfekr was sentenced to a year in prison on November 20, 2011, on charges of publishing materials contrary to Islamic norms, a decision that was subsequently upheld by the court.
