Ali Sardar Jafri was an Indian Urdu poet, a leftist thinker, and a prominent figure in the Progressive Writers' Movement. Born on November 29, 1913, he published nine poetry collections, a play, a short story collection, and four prose books. He translated Ghalib's poetry from Persian and received several literary awards, including the Nehru Award from the Soviet Union and the Padma Shri. Jafri passed away on August 1, 2000.
