Allan J. McDonald was an American engineer and aerospace consultant known for his role as the director of the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor Project for Morton-Thiokol. He gained prominence for refusing to approve the launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger in January 1986, a decision that came just before the tragic explosion that claimed the lives of seven astronauts. McDonald sought to uncover the reasons behind the launch pressures that contributed to the disaster and co-authored a book detailing the events surrounding it.
